The first weekend - THIS SUNDAY 18th and MONDAY 19th at 8pm

will be at HORIZON THEATRE in Little 5 Points.

Hello Artists!

if you're getting this you've expressed interest in performing or writing for THEATRE RELIEF ATLANTA.

Here's the deal.

The structure of the performance will be based on individual pieces that can stand alone (and therefore rehearsed and prepared individually) and linked in each night's performance. This way each night may be slightly different as different people will be available on different nights.

What does this mean for you?

1) It means that if you would like to participate look at the following performance dates, check your availability and send the dates you can perform to me.

2) Based on these dates and your availability i will cast you in pieces. If you are available all the nights you will be in the group pieces and solo pieces, if only a few nights you will be in individual pieces.

3) If you don't have an idea that you are working on already i will give you a monologue or scene or poem or song and a description of what it will be like. ( i'm hoping to have each piece be a duet of sorts, i.e. a poet and a musician, a monologue and a dancer, etc.

4) There will be a general rehearsal time scheduled for this week. 7pm at my house every night. If you have specific rehearsal times you need email me and we'll work them out. this way we can all meet and start working individually and then figure out times for group rehearsals. SO... if you can come to my house at 7pm starting tomorrow, Monday. We'll start working on things and getting an idea of what each person is doing. BRING YOUR INSTRUMENTS if you are playing them.

I finished interviews today and spoke with some amazing men and women making Atlanta their home after the disaster in NO.

Hi Atlanta Theatre leaders, perfomring artist and writers - Lauren Gunderson, here.

I had a thought.

In a week's time (or week and a half) I am collecting interviews of evacuees in the area (both here and in Memphis where 15000 are located); hearing some stories, collecting some images, and maybe even find some artists in the mix that can write or sing; collect the stories into a 45-60 minute piece, and get 4-6 actors ready to do a 2-4 night run to raise money.

Would you be willing to consider acting, writing, or hosting this event?

I imagine a simple piece mainly presenting literal stories of horror and hope. Nothing Hallmark Channel... but trying to capture stories and reactions and intentions. Bare but hopefully rich. I've already got the first few scenes. Themes within this piece will be characterization (by interviews), blues music, jazz music, gospel music, hope, the city itself, anthropomorizing nature, charity, race, etc. So far its called "K".

I'm thinking one night per theater... maybe 4 nights all together across the city. $20 per person, but donations accepted. I'm wondering about having each theater chose the charity - or have all the money go to schools who are hosting thousands of displaced kids and need supplies. I would try and invite some evacuees to attend as well, if not perform or speak, if they wanted to.

If you would be interested in hosting this for a night all we'd need is your stage, some lighting and your email list. We could perform on whatever set was up already. Involving more than one theater would also help to reach a broad spectrum of people. I'm thinking at least we could raise a thousand bucks, hopefully a thousand bucks a night.
